Ellen Foley.

Ellen Foley, Sad Song, 1979.
I love Ellen´s voice. She made a couple of great albums.
The first was the classic Night Out which features Ian Hunter and Mick Ronson on production.Just great tunes on that album a must. She also teamed up with Mick Jones from The Clash on her next album who was her boyfriend at the time.
She never had a solo single which was a hit.
She did hit it big with Meat Loaf on the album Bat Out Of Hell, although she was replaced in the video for the song!
This is a "Sad Song when love goes wrong," we´ve all been there, love it.

Tin Machine.

Tin Machine, Prisoner Of Love, 1989.
Great single this from Bowie´s Tin Machine.I remember waiting in a cue after going to a club in Liverpool till the morning for tickets to see him in this band, well worth the wait.It was at The Liverpool Royal Court,I was so close to him.
There were that many versions of this song, 12inch, pic disc,CD, Cassete single etc i´m surprised it wasn´t a massive hit.
I still think Bowie got a bad deal over this group,it´s a shame because there were some good songs on their two albums.

Ric Ocasek.

Ric Ocasek, Something To Grab For, 1983.
From his first solo album Beatitude 1982, Ric the lead singer with The Cars, this was the first single off the album.
I have always loved the Cars but his solo releases just seem to be missing something for me. This is a good tune though and should have been more successful.

Zaine Griff.

Zaine Griff, Figures, 1982.
Zine Griff, once touted as the new David Bowie.
Figures from his second album of the same name, was a good single. He also did a duet with Kate Bush on the track Flowers.I bought his first album Ashes And Diamonds which came out in 1980 and had the single Tonight on the album as well as the title track as a single. Both good albums especially Ashes And Diamonds which was also produced by Bowie´s long time producer Tony Visconti.I´ve just read Tony´s autobiography which mentions Zaine,( a really good read ).Zaine actually apears on the 1979 rerecording of Panic In Detroit, from the Heathen album, he played Bass on the track. You will find Zaine´s Videos on You Tube.

Sweeny Todd.

Sweeny Todd, Roxy Roller, 1975.
Good Glam song this from their debut album of the same name.
This song was a no 1 hit in Canada but didn´t do anything over her.Nick Gilder was the lead singer of the band at this time, and he later rerecorded this song on his album You Know Who You Are, 1977.
When Nick left the band they made one more album with a young Bryan Adams on vocals in 1977, called If Wishes Were Horses.
Nick is best known for his single Hot Child In The City,1978 from his album City Lights.

Siobhan Fahey, Bitter Pill, 2002.
Great single from Siobhan, should have been massive, (if only Kylie had covered it)Great pop song.
Siobhan a founding member of Bananarama, then Shakespeare Sister, has gone on to a interesting solo career.
The Pussycat Dolls covered this on their debut album but changed some of the lyrics and name, see which version you like best.

Royal Melody, Love Is Like Oxygen Originally by The Sweet and their last hit single in 1978.It was covered again this year as a dance track. It wasn´t a hit but a good version.
The Tronic Heads version of this song called Oxygen,is great dance and should have been massive i love this.
The Sugar Ray used the song as a sample in this single The Bartender(Its So Easy)to good effect, a good single.
I have also included The Sweets original version from the album Level Headed, their last album with lead singer Brian Connolly. This is the long version.

Trek W/ Quintronic, When I Was Young, 1981
Paul Wilcox is the man behind this band. This is a single fro their self titled album. This could possibly be my fave single of the early 80´s, i just love it.
They made two albums, the second being Landing, 1980.
Both are soon to be released on CD for the first time.If you like the single you must get the albums, both are really good.

Utopia.

Utopia, Love Is The Answer,
I remember buying this album in a bargain bin just because i liked the sleeve.I actually went on to buy a few of their albums. The album was Oop´s Wrong Planet,1977.
This was a single off the album and is a good tune. I like Tod Rundgren and thought this should have been more sucesful.
I don´t usually like it when a band has a new lead singer but Todd went on tour with the New Cars and made some new tracks with them as the lead singer which were really good.
