Denim.

Denim,Middle Of The Road.1992.
Ilove this kind of observational song writing, like Pulp and Luke Haines.
Denim were obsessed with the seventies. They made some good songs this single was from the album Back In Denim. They made three albums i know of,Back In Denim 1992,Denim On Ice 1996 and Novelty Rock 1997.

Fingerprintz.

Fingerprintz,Bulletproof Heart 1980.
Don´t know too much about this band. This song came from the album Distinguishing Marks.I know that they made three albums and one mini album.
They went on to become The Silencers, who also did a version of this song which is on their Dance To The Holy Man album 1991 and was also a single, see which version you like the best.

Gavin Friday.

Gavin Friday,King Of Trash./I Want To Live. 1992.r
Gavin used to be the lead singer of The Virgin Prunes,I never got into them but his solo stuff I love.
This track is from his first solo album Adam And Eve.Its very Glam. Another great track from this album was I want To Live,in fact i´m going to post that too.
The Last thing I saw Gavin do was a film about growing up gay in Ireland in the seventies and he dose a cover of the Sweet hit Wig Wam Bam.The film was Breakfast On Pluto 2005. I also seem to remember Naomi Campbell covering I Want To Live on her Baby Woman album.

Iggy Pop.

Iggy Pop,Shades.
I love Iggy,I went to see him years ago in Rock City in Nottingham and he was a bit of a disappointment. He was angry at the crowd because there was not a lot of interaction with him.He kept going off stage coming back, he was abusive to the crowd. That said when he did settle down he was great.A true Rock Star.
Iggy has been around forever, and I can appreciate his different styles over the years.I love The Kill City album, then his Idiot,Lust for Life,New Values,Brick By Brick,Blah Blah Blah and the last album i really loved was Avenue B fantastic lyrics and music.
This single is from 1986 from the album Blah Blah Blah.It was again produced by David Bowie.I love iggy´s voice when he sings deep

Be Bop Deluxe.

Be Bop Deluxe,Panic In The World.1978.
I remember going to Leicester DeMontford Hall to see Be Bop Deluxe when this album came out,I really thought they were at last going to make it big.It never happened. This single is a bit like Heroes by Bowie but is a great song.I love the way it builds also the lyrics are great too.
I have been a Bill Nelson fan since I first Heard Ships In The Night, which was a hit.His solo work is really worth checking out as well as the Be Bop Deluxe albums.I will post some solo work of Bill´s in later posts.

Yukihiro Takahashi.

Yukihiro Takahashi,Disposable Love.
Yukihiro Takahashi is probably best known as the drummer and lead singer of The Yellow Magic Orchestra. I first heard about him from Bill Nelson who has worked with him. He has made a lot of solo albums, around thirty or so. Of the ones i own What? Me Worry? 1982 ,is my fave, and Disposable Love my fave track.I never heard it on the radio, such a shame as its a special song and deserves more attention.

Banderas.

Banderas,She Sells.
Banderas were an off shoot of Jimmy Somerville. They were in his backing band.
they were Caroline Buckley the singer and Sally Herbert musician. They released one album called Ripe, in 1991 and actually recorded a second, which has never seen the light of day.
They had a hit with, This Is Your Life which went top 40 but this single She Sells and the beautiful, May This Be Your Last Sorrow were never hits.
If anyone has heard or has the second album to share i would love to hear.

Sniff n´the Tears.

Sniff n´the Tears, Drivers Seat.
The first single off the Fickle Heart album which was released 1978.Paul Roberts was the driving force of the band,as he was the writer, the lead singer, played acoustic guitar and painted their album sleeves.
Drivers Seat was another radio hit perhaps thats why it didn´t sell, you could hear it all the time in 1978 on the radio.
Th album Fickle Heart which was released in 1979 was a little bit Dire Staits, but don´t let that put you off i really like the album.
Sniff n´the Tears made six album and never had a hit,and Paul made two solo albums.
I have posted the long version of Drivers Seat and also as a bonus a mash up with Basement Jaxx Romeo, let me know what you think.

Robert Marlow.

Robert Marlow,The Face Of Dorien Gray. This single was released in 1983,and was not a hit, I dont know why. I cant remember it on the radio at all.Robert recorded this and a whole album The Peter Pan Effect with his friend Vince Clark. It was just after Yazoo split. Robert was from Basildon as were Depeche Mode and Alison Moyet, who he played in a band with. There were three other singles which were also not hits including Claudette which i love. Because of this the album was not released at the time. Eventually it was released in 1999.

Mick Ronson

Mick Ronson, Billy Porter.
Billy porter is from Mick´s second solo album Play Don´t Worry 1975.
His first Slaughter On 10th Avenue 1974 and Play Don´t Worry are brilliant Gam Rock at its best. They are lost treasures and you need them in your collection now!!
The single Billy Porter should have been massive, it was played on Radio Trent all the time, another radio hit as they call them. I also love the b-side Seven Days which wasnt on the album so iv´e included that too.
Mick Ronson is famous for being in the Spiders From Mars,David Bowie´s backing band, but he was much more than that, a great arranger, listen to Lou Reed´s Transformer album. He worked with Ian Hunter on and off through his career and was a member of Mott The Hoople for a short while. He also toured with Bob Dylan and produced many artist´s over the years, The Rich Kids, John Cougar Mellencamp and Morrissey´s Your Arsnal in 1992.
Mick was diagnosed with liver cancer in 1991 died 1993.
He was in the middle of his last album Heaven And Hull. It was finished off with help of his friends and released in 1994. A good album with Ian Hunter, Joe Eliiot, John Cougar Mellencamp, Chrissy Hynde and David Bowie.

Pete Shelley

Pete Shelley. I Don´t Know What It is.
1981,the second track from his album Homosapian his first solo album after leaving the Buzzcocks. A great synth pop single which has good lyrics.
Pete made three solo albums all worth checking out.He is back with the Buzzcocks now and has been for a few years, its a shame he didn´t have more solo success.
His albums were Homosapian 1981, XL1 19 1983, Heaven And Sea 1986. I remember XL1 had a code on the album so you could somehow put the lyrics onto your computer from it. I didn´t have a computer in 1983.

Andy Bell

Andy Bell,Crazy.
This single was released in 2005 and the album it was from Electric Blue was a real surprise. Better than the recent Erasure releases,It had a freshness to it. It was good to hear Claudia Brucken from Propaganda on the album.

The Tourists

The Tourists, The Loneliest Man In The World.
Everyone knows what happened to the lead singer and guitarist from this band. They became the wonderful Eurythmics.
Well I love this song from 1979, not written by Annie or Dave but I love Annie´s voice here , and i think it should have been a bigger hit. It was written by Peet Coombs who wrote most of the bands songs. It was produced by Dave Stewart though.
It also came as a 7inch picture disc, I loved to collect them and at one point had a whole wall covered in 7inch, 12inch, and shaped picture discs, great.

Mr Big

Mr Big,Senora.
Not to be confused with the American band Mr Big. These guys had a big hit in 1977 with a song called Romeo. This was from their second self titled album.
Their first was called Sweet Silence in 1975.
Senora was from their third album which was not released until 2001. The album was produced by Ian Hunter who also co wrote Senora. Why it was never released when finished I don´t know as the album is fantastic. The album is called Seppuku.
I love the lead singers voice Dicken.
After Mr Big broke up, Dicken formed Broken Home well worth looking out for, two albums, Broken Home and Life.

Nylon Pylon

Nylon Pylon, Foot In Mouth.
I don´t know much about this band except this single.
A real good indie dance tune, with a great chorus. Just got this again from amazon, I love it.
It came out in 2003, they had two other singles, Pushin 2003 and Sister Siam 2001. If anyone has these or more to share let me know.
The sleeve picture is actually from pushin.

The Planets

The Planets, Iron For The Iron.
The planets made a couple of albums, Goon Hilly Down, which Iron For The Iron is from and Spot.
I remember buying the album for three pound and forty nine pence, it had a special price sticker on it.
Steve Lindsey from Liverpool band Deaf School was a member and wrote all the songs on Goon Hill Down. Iron For The Iron was one of three singles. The Planets were what was known then as New Wave.

Andy Scott

Andy Scott, Lady Starlight.
This was the first solo single from the guitarist of Glam rock band Sweet. It had been a track off their album Desolation Boulevard in 1974, but was rerecorded for his solo in 1975. I remember seeing him perform this on the Mike Mansfield show Supersonic. God I used to love that show.
I also met Andy and got my copy of this signed in Chester a few years ago at a Sweet concert. In England we didn´t get the picture sleeve but i later got a copy of one from Germany.
Andy is still touring his Sweet and they are really worth seeing.

Michael Penn

Michael Penn,
No Myth. This song from 1989 wasn´t a hit in England but was a top 20 in America, No 13. I remember hearing it on the radio a lot and rushing out to buy his album March. March is well worth hunting down, great songwriting by Penn. Michael is brothers to Sean and Chris Penn. I have also added a bonus remix of the single.

Thought you might also like to hear the rough demo of the original Madman, that Bowie and Bolan made in 1977. The sound quality is not good , but its good to hear anyway.

Cuddly Toys.

Cuddly Toys released their single Madman which was written by Marc Bolan and David Bowie in 1980.

I loved this single but had never heard the original by Bolan and Bowie until a few years later.

Because of the single I went on to buy their debut album Guillotine Theatre which I really liked.

I always loved their image as it was a little bit Punk and a lot Glam. Their next single Astral Joe was like early Tubeway Army.

I will post that single in the future.
